Medical Staff Coordinator Sr., Banner Good Samaritan
Medical Staff Services is responsible for credentialing, which included new applications and reappointments for approximately 1600 practitioners and providing support to all committees and departments under the medical staff structure.  This Department is also responsible for complying with all regulatory requirements that involve the Medical Staff.

This senior medical staff coordinator position is responsible for credentailing and processing approximately 650 reappointment applications and supports 3 medical staff departments and 7 medical staff committees in addition to scheduling call coverage in these areas of specialty. This position is also responsible for credentialing documentation in our software database and sending out and processing medical staff and allied health staff dues for 1600 practitioners. 

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a strong knowledge of interpersonal relations and healthcare administration as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, management, risk management, law, medical records, physician relations, physician practice management, or related field.

Requires Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or 10 years experience in medical staff services and required to obtain certification within 2 years of transferring into this position.

Must possess extensive knowledge of medical staff operations, policies, rules and regulations, regulatory agency guidelines and standards as normally demonstrated through 3-5 years experience in medical staff services. Must possess demonstrated leadership abilities. Requires experience interacting with physicians in highly sensitive situations. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires astute judgment in human relations skills to interface and communicate in an articulate manner with medical staff, administrators, legal counsel and hospital personnel. Requires the ability to work with common office software and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of medical staff computer software programs is desirable.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Medical Staff Coordinator, Banner Ironwood Medical Center

The Banner Ironwood Medical Center located in Queen Creek Arizona, on Combs & Gantzel offically opened on Nov. 1st. 2010!  The facility will open with a full-service Emergency Department, 36 inpatient beds and a focus on general and intensive care, obstetrics and surgery.  Of the 36 beds, 12 will be dedicated to medical surgical care and 12 will be licensed as a multi-service organizing unit, allowing the provision of varying levels of care from general to intensive care based on patient needs. The obstetrics program will include 12 postpartum beds along with four labor/delivery/recovery rooms and two c-section suites. To serve inpatient and outpatient needs, the hospital will include four surgical suites and medical imaging services (X-ray, MRI, CT and ultrasound). 

 

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides highly skilled support via liaison representation to committees, medical staff departments, physicians, and other hospital personnel under moderate supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Coordinates all aspects of assigned medical staff committees including compiling agenda material, accurately documenting minutes, compiling follow-up memos and letters, researching and preparing information for chairs, and providing professional assistance to various chairmen regarding privileging, credentialing, reappointment, and medical staff rules and regulations as outlined in the medical staff bylaws.

2. In consultation with the director, provides administrative support for hearing committees. Serves as a resource for medical staff members regarding medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, hospital and medical staff policies, regulatory requirements and parliamentary procedure. Assists in drafting correspondence ensuring compliance with established bylaws, rules and regulations. May coordinate GME and/or CME functions and processes.

3. Under direction, liaises between medical staff and administration, communicating sensitive and confidential issues including peer review. Interacts directly with a variety of internal and external customers. Uses judgment and discretion to maintain peer review protection to hospital and medical staff.

4. Understands and maintains an accurate, secure and updated database of physician and allied health information to query on basic demographic profiles including but not limited to staff privileges and status for other hospital departments and facilities requiring this information. Uses various internal databases to gather and analyze physician and allied health data used in the reappointment, peer review and quality improvement processes of the medical staff and board of directors.

5. Coordinates processing of all aspects of physician and allied health credentialing and reappointment processes within appropriate timeframes ensuring the quality of the practitioners providing patient care. Assures the completeness and accurateness of the credentialing process. Requests additional information from external medical if necessary. May obtain and log expired credentials on a monthly basis according to rules and policies. Monitors the progress of physicians through the supervision period, assisting department chairs with the appropriate procedures, forms and time limits.

6. Collects and compiles data for physician and allied health quality profiles to analyze practice patterns using data to determine performance. This includes working with senior staff, department chairmen, quality staff, and other hospital staff to identify sources of data and methods of presenting and analyzing data.

7. Manages the preparation, distribution and maintenance of the physician emergency department call schedules.


Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Requires knowledge of medical terminology and professional physician interface. Requires experience interacting with physicians in highly sensitive situations. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires astute judgment in human relations skills to interface and communicate in an articulate manner with medical staff, administrators, legal counsel and hospital personnel.

Requires the ability to work with common office software and equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of college education is preferred. National Certification as a Medical Staff Services Professional is preferred. Knowledge of medical staff computer software programs is desirable.

RESPOSIBILITIES:  The Medical staff service provides administrative direction and support for organized medical staff and medical staff leadership.\Facilitates all physician and allied health professional (AHP) credentialing and privileging processes. Maintains CMS compliance for Medical and AHP Staffs Medical staff organizational and credentialing documents (i.e., Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Credentialing Manual, Privilege Checklists). Manages all medical staff and AHP inappropriate conduct, Sexual harassment issues, physical and mental health issues, licensing disciplinary actions, etc. Staffs all medical staff and AHP meetings.Facilitates medical staff and AHP peer review, quality management and patient safety issues. Maintains professional files, current licensure, Professional liability (malpractice) insurance and DEA certificates.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Must possess a strong knowledge of hospital organizations, policies, rules and regulations, regulatory agency guidelines and standards, as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field. Requires Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) certification. Strong understanding of medical staff operations as typically demonstrated with a minimum of 5 years management experience in a medical staff services setting. Requires demonstrated abilities and experience in conflict resolution, high-level problem solving, and decision-making. Extensive experience interacting with physicians in highly sensitive situations. Astute judgment in human relations skills to interface and communicate in an articulate manner with medical staff, administrators, legal counsel and hospital personnel. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with common office software and equipment.
